Help for two needy women
THE Penang MIC Youth has come to the aid of an 80-year-old woman and her 63-year-old paralysed daughter.The two women received a wheelchair and food items when MIC Youth members visited them at their rented room in Jalan Mengkuang, Butterworth (Bagan)
Its chief J. Dhinagaran together with five youth members swept and mopped the floor before handing over the items.
K. Muniamah said her husband and son died 20 years ago and she had been living with her daughter M. Anjalai, a single mother, for the past several years.
“Anjalai used to work as a cleaner at a nearby flat block before she suddenly became paralysed after high fever in November last year.
“We are finding it hard to get by with the RM450 from the state Welfare Department as more than RM200 is already spent on rental, utility bills, food and adult diapers,” she said.
Anjalai thanked Dhinagaran for the wheelchair and food items and said life had become difficult after she became paralysed.
“I am very happy with the wheelchair as my neighbours can now push me around the area. I am looking forward to becoming somewhat mobile again.”
Dhinagaran said he came to know about the mother and daughter’s plight after one of their neighbours called him a few days ago.
“I offered to place them in an old folk’s home but they refused as they are happy to stay in the rented room.
“I also gave them my contact number so that they can call me whenever they need help,” he said.
Note: The writer feels that CM Lim Guan Eng who once declared that there is no POVERTY in Penang should look at his very own Parliament constituency, Bagan.
